I love this city tonight.

As a sort of way to get my mind off of other pressing matters (well, not procrastinating, but you get the general idea), I have a new rant for the few readers I have on this thing.

The Borders Express in Quakerbridge Mall is closing on January 24th.

Yes, it is one of the many victims that this fucked-up economy has claimed, and although this may be no different than the rest of them, this has disheartened me more than the others, because it was at the Borders Express (née Walden Books) on a quiet, sunny day in July eight years ago that I discovered Harry Potter. To this day it remains one of my most vivid memories. It’s right up there with the night I started NP and my first kiss (okay, so the latter was only four months ago, but just give it a few years and it’ll make more sense to you).

Hannah and I went in there to kill time while Anna “died” in that Victoria’s Secret Beaty store. We each ended up getting a book since the whole stock was at least 25% off. Hannah wondered about it and I figured that they were probably closing (not really thinking about the impact of those words). We brought our respective book to the register and had a lovely conversation with the cashier, who confirmed my mere pondering. She was one of those people that always wanted to work in a bookstore: tried since eighteen, and finally got to in her thirties. And now she’s looking for a new job. Goddamn this recession and economy.

Of course, I would be the one to care about whether a bookstore is closing. Go figure.

  1. <=) I wish I could open a bookstore for the nice lady so that she could have a great job, and so would I. Michelle could be my business partner. That would be splendid.

Snow Patrol is amazing, despite its audience being predominantly female.

  2. Ah, that is my dream job, to have a bookstore (aside from the authorship). I’d hire her in a heartbeat. Yes, Snow Patrol is amazing and I was shocked to discover that my friend John had that wonderful CD.
